But who is Bold Venture Press, anyway?
Audrey Parente, a Connecticut native, retired as an award-winning reporter after 20 years at The Daytona Beach News-Journal in Florida. The single mother of two musicians, she earned a black belt in tae kwon do after studying the martial art in Korea, traveled to 24 U.S. States, volunteered for the U.S. Citizens Democracy Corps serving in Russia, published poetry in a Japanese newspaper and wrote travel stories about Egypt.
Among her myriad adventures, Audrey white-water rafted on the Ocoee River in Tennessee, hot air ballooned and sky dived in Florida, flew a Good Year blimp over the Daytona International Speedway and conducted a Navy band.
She penned three biographies about pulp fiction-era authors — Hugh B. Cave, Theodore Roscoe, and Judson P. Philips. She edited Timely Confidential: When the Golden Age of Comics Was Young by Allen Bellman, with her co-editor Dr. Michael J. Vassaollo. She continues her writing career in South Florida, now as an author and editor for Bold Venture Press. Her novel Pulp Noir depicts two collectors of old paper magazines, and one grizzled hoarder in particular who stumbles into a cougar romance.
Rich Harvey founded Pulp Adventures Press in 1992, which eventually became Bold Venture Press. The Bold Venture imprint published The Spider and Pulp Adventures magazine, went on hiatus for a few years, then returned in 2014 with a vengeance, reviving Pulp Adventures.
Rich's articles have appeared in numerous publications, including Starlog and Comics Scene. He helped bring The Spider to Joe Gentile's Moonstone Books imprint. He contributed a revival of Ed Race, the Masked Marksman as a bonus feature in The Spider: Shadow of Evil by C.J. Henderson. He followed that up with a three-way team-up between Ed Race, Doc Turner, and The Spider (the first teaming of The Spider with his popular back-up characters) in The Spider Chronicles hardcover edition. He also penned two stories for The Green Hornet from Moonstone.
In the mundane world, Rich was a freelance reporter and graphic designer, working in the newspaper industry for 17 years.
Among Bold Venture's proudest releases: Zorro: The Complete Pulp Adventures by Johnston McCulley in six volumes, under license from Zorro Productions; Zorro and the Little Devil, a new adventure novel by New York Times bestselling author Peter David; the hardboiled Jack Hagee, Private Eye series by C.J. Henderson; Wycliffe A. Hill's legendary The Plot Genie writing device; and Primal Spillane, an anthology collecting 40 rare stories by the creator of Mike Hammer.
Bold Venture Press is open to submissions from new authors, or people interested in compiling anthologies from the classic pulp magazines. If you're an author interested in submitting material, download our contributor guidelines.
